What is the Site Council?
The Site Council is a group consisting of parents, teachers, the school principal, and community members, who learn how the school is run and what the school budget includes. Members have a voice in school decisions. A Site Council meeting is a place where parents can bring ideas and suggestions, and have an opportunity to hear how the school is meeting the goal of raising student achievement. The Site Council has a chair or co-chairs, and a secretary. For 2008-09 the Co-chairs are parent representatives Rebecca Gonzalez and Karla Harris. Mary Bakken, staff representative, is the Secretary.
Discussion topics at a meeting may include: •school funding and staffing for the year •interpretation of the MN Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) test results •revision of the Parent/Family Involvement Guidelines •new Steps to Respect bullying prevention program for primary students •new ideas for the School Comprehensive Improvement Plan (SCIP) •parent suggested topics
